My name is Claire Knox.
People say I’m the female version of a player a boyslayer, if you’re fluent in urban dictionary speak.
I hate long term relationships. I’ll never commit to sticking around long enough to get attached to the notion of love, marriage, or the proverbial two point five kids.
No sirree Not this girl.
There’s no way I’ll let myself get hurt by losing someone I love ever again.
Been there, felt that.
Consider me damaged goods if you will, but I'm happy.
Or so I thought, until my path crossed his again…
Note One Last Shot can be read as a standalone within the Pub Fiction series. Each book however is interconnected, if you would like to get to know the previous couples mentioned in this book, I recommending reading book 1 My Mind's Eye and book 2 On the Rocks first.

First of all I want to say sorry if you get lost in my rambling. It's hard to get my thoughts out, especially when the story makes you feel emotions. So,...In this book I saw a different side of Claire. That there is more to the easy attitude and fun loving girl. Claire has issues. No matter how much she denied it. After that horrible night, when she was 14 year old, she closed herself of. Not letting herself to see the good, happy and beautiful part of the life. All she saw, that letting someone in means a lot of pain and being left behind broken.
I found sometimes that Claire was naive. Or more correctly lying to herself. About Matt, about her feelings. I mean you can't make rules about not giving your heart again to the guy, when you didn't got it back in the first place. Matt was still keeping it in his caring hands.
On some occasions I think Claires fear made her even kind of selfish. She scared of pain loving Matt could bring, so she is pushing him away. But at the end of the day she never lets him go completely. Claire would give him paradise and soon after she will kick Matt in the balls, so to speak. If she decided to move on without him, Claire shouldn't hold him back. But she can't even think about him with another girl on his arms. She can't imagine those hand touching and bringing joy to anyone but her. And let not talk about that every time they meet, they can't fight this force, which gravitates them to each other arms and she for a while forgets about her stupid rules. Poor conflicting girl she is for sure.
Half through the book, I couldn't help but want to strangle Claire. Yes, I did. I so hate stubborn characters with stick up theirs a****. Lol. And Claire was really set in her way girl. Even if she knows she's wrong she still be on that wrong path. Okay, I could understand that loosing people you love isn't easy. And that pain will always be there. But with time it will be easer, because you will start to remember the happy times you had with them. You be happy you had those moments and can cherish every second of them. But Claire for a long time only remembered 'that' day that crushed her. The pain and other negative things 'that' day brought. With those choices she made, Claire closed the door to the beautiful memories. More then once I wished I could say to her, that life sometimes just sucks. And unfortunately dead is part of it. Maybe it is even something we need to remind us some simple but important facts of life. Because sometimes we forget those important things, the things we need to enjoy and cherish as if it was the last day of our lifes and not let negativity or fear to take over. And Claire lost a sight to treasure life can bring. Choosing to close herself in the darkness.
Matt was... Amazing? Fabulous? I can't find the right word. He was a man who was ready to fight for someone belonging to him. He never gave up on Claire. No matter that most of the time she was her stubborn self. The man for sure had a patience of saint. And that is one of the things I admired about him. The other thing of course was his flute. ROFL. Yeah, I could help but mention it and lighten up the mood. It was funny moment, that I still smiled about even after I finished the book. You will get it, when you read this story.
Through it all, I kept thinking, did something could shake Claire and to finally make her to open her eyes and see what a lucky girl she truly is? She has gifts in her life that she needs to treasure. Or even if she did realize it, wouldn't it be to late? Because how much rejection person can take and say enough is enough?
Gillian knows how to evoke all your emotions with her world. And no way you will be indifferent to the story. For sure you need to add this to your TBR list.

One Last Shot Pub Fiction Book 3 edition by Gillian Jones Book Covers by Ashbee Designs Quoth the Raven Writing Co Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Another great story line from Gillian Jones. The last of the series. The story of the 2nd sister from another mister. The life of learning to love without the fear of losing that person. Matty showed that he was the stick around man. Through a support group Claire learned she wasn't the only one to have lost love ones and had to learn to live again. She learned how to help others the same way. Very touching story line with loads of fun in the middle!
Keep up the good stories Gillian!
I've been so excited waiting for the release of One Last Shot and Gillian Jones did not disappoint.
This book is the third in Gillian Jones' Pub Fiction series and is Matt and Claire's story.
Claire, as a young teenager, she loses both her parents on the same day due to an accident. After dealing with the heartbreak and pain of losing them, as she goes on and becomes a young woman, still feeling the loss and pain from her parent's death, she decides she will never allow herself to love someone so deeply again in order to avoid the pain if she loses them. She believes if she never loves again, she'll be able to protect her heart from suffering the same devastation. But then she meets Matt. Matt scares the hell out of her because she knows her feelings are so strong that if anything should happen to him, if you were to lose him, she would break all over again. She decides to run away from him and their love in a attempt to protect her heart but over time she's see it's all been in vain. Her heart belongs to Matt but she still refuses to give in to the feelings fearful of the outcome.
Matt, he knows Claire is broken and he's not giving up till he helps her to fix herself and heal from the devastating loss of her mom and dad. He plans on waiting for as long as it takes, years if he has to. He bides his time till she returns from running away. He then begins his mission to get her back in his arms and life forever.
But one night, when harsh words are spoken by Claire, words that she regrets immediately but then runs away again without showing regret, she wounds Matt to the point he decides for the preservation of his own heart he'll have to let her walk away from him for good. All the while, trying to help Claire, he's been hurting himself. He decides it's time to let Claire go and move on with his own life and allow her to move on with her own.
While crying over what's she done to her and Matt, Claire finally sees her pain has been blinding her from truly healing and loving her Matty back the way he should be loved.
She finally decides it's time to make a change and go after her man but will it be too late? Has she pushed Matt too far? Is he now the one that has to protect his heart?
I highly recommend this book. It will make you laugh and cry but mostly love.
This book gave me the feels oh so good. I have been in love with this series since the first book was released and One Last Shot just made me fall in love with Gillian's writing and her characters just a little bit more. Matt is the kind of hero that every woman is looking for in their life and if Claire wouldn't have gotten her act together I would have totally taken him for my own. Claire never getting over an event from her past which made her believe that if you love someone you will somehow get left behind or hurt, leaves Matt without a goodbye or reason. For two years he has held out hope that she will get rid of her demons and return to him and when she does her beliefs are still firmly intact. Matt with the patience of a saint knows that she is the other half to his soul and sets out to get her to admit it and that together they can overcome anything. I enjoyed this book tremendously, it was fun catching up with the other characters from previous books who to me feel like family. I recommend this book for all readers who likes a second chance romance where love is worth fighting for after giving it ONE LAST SHOT.
