“You kidnapped me.”

Ophelia paused without turning and gave a shrug. “Would you have come if I’d asked?”

“No.”

Melissa's youth was filled with tragedy and destruction, but she's sifted the ashes and forged something better for herself, something survivable. Between the death of her family and her horrifying experiences in anti-gay therapy, she knows she'll never be whole.

She doesn't know that someone is watching, and when their plan is executed, she's captured and reunited with someone from her past she never thought she'd see again.

Damaged Goods by Sydney Falk is a complete mind play of a book. I loved every second of it.

I really thought I had the whole thing figured out early on. I was a bit disappointed that I “figured” it out so quickly and then BAM!!! Not so fast Christina. Sydney wasn’t done playing with my brain.

A TRAGIC CHILDHOOD

Damaged Goods is a about a woman, Melissa, and her struggles to appear normal after a tragic childhood.

Part of the tragedy she caused, the other part was by a family friend thinking they were doing Melissa good by sending her to a “pray the gay away” camp.

After tragedy number one, Melissa is at St. Jude’s Psychiatric Hospital. Melissa and her roommate, Alison, become fast friends. Friends who find out together that they’re both lesbians and share some intimate moments.

SHE FEELS SHE HAS NO SOUL

After tragedy number two, anti-gay camp, Melissa is only a breathing being. She feels she has no soul. There’s no life left in her to live, but she just keeps breathing.

Later, she meets a new person at art school named Ophelia. Melissa doesn’t understand why, but she despises Ophelia. She begs to not sit by her and eventually ensures that they have no classes together.

After school, Melissa becomes sort of an art critic. One night she’s at a gallery, scoping out the art, where our story begins. She’s caught by Ophelia staring at her art.

Melissa makes a mad dash out of the gallery and back to her apartment. Melissa goes to sleep, and then wakes up handcuffed to a bar by the bed in a room that looks like hers but isn’t.

Alison, someone she hasn’t spoken to in years, is asleep next to her. Or is it someone who looks like Alison? This is the beginning of my mind waking up and taking notice of all the little things – discrepancies (purposefully thrown in to make us readers question EVERYTHING).

Damaged Goods made me question every move that was made. Then, it made me really question the sanity of Melissa, many, many times. I think even though I’ve finished the book and skimmed it a couple more times, I’m done questioning. I like that after I’ve turned the last page my brain is still thinking. In the end, all I can really say is, well played, Sydney Falk. Well played.

Damaged Goods eBook Sydney Falk Reviews

Fair read. Had trouble keeping up with story
Ms. Falk never fails to write stories about "real" people! That's why I love her writing. So many romance novels I've read are about perfect people with perfect lives finding love. Those are great but once in a while it's awesome to read about people who are really f'd up finding love too!
I this is the second book that I have read from this author and so far I am very impressed. The story is sad and at times was a little overwhelming is it deals with some heavy issues like suicide. I'll stop there so not to give away to too much. My only complaint would be that bouncing and forth from present to the past during some of the story took some time understand, but I got over that pretty quick. Excellent work and can't wait to read some f your other work.
